It's been a long time since I've been here!  Lots of changes, lots of updates!  School starts in some 35 days and may be my last semester.  I have assumed leadership of what was "our" doll conference.  The dates for 2013 are Jun 6-9, in Albuquerque, NM.  I am rebuilding the website and chances are pretty good that it will not be up in it's entirety until the end of September, but teachers will be announce relatively soon....

As Promised....

It's been a while since my last post!  As many of you know there was a gallery opening on the 16th of July in which I was asked to exhibit two of my dolls, both are multi-media.  The theme is "Things in the Air"  I was quite tickled seeing as it's been a long time since I actually was able to create anything.  However, with the help of my two wonderful friends and mentors, Sherry Goshon and Jean Bernard, I once again begun to create dolls, one of my first love's.  So, thank you to both my talented friends and hallelujah, my muse seems to have returned, here they are.

Catching Up

It's June already, CIFI 2011 is over and done with and so it's another year in the bag, so to say!  CIFI this year was unbelievable!  Such fun and laughter and the teachers were amazing.  Jean Bernard and Sherry Goshon teach an open ended class that takes their students to a new place.  Arley's ladies are always too gorgeous to be believed.  This year Sherry and Nancy Gawron both taught classes for children on Friday and Saturday nights and the kids were thrilled!!!  Other mini classes included Yvonne Nathenson wonderful brooch class, Gail Sakovich's beading class, Elma's clay flowers, and Donna Coles wonderful origami cloth folded kimono's.  Next year's theme is the Enchanted Forest...  LOL...  How fun.  Plan on attending this wonderful little conference here in NM next year if you can.

I can't believe that it has been this long since my last post.  For those of you who are following my school progress, I have completed my first semester in my Master's Program, pulling A's in all three classes.  Yippee!  I have also taken a summer job at an open community art center.  It's only 10 hours a week, but I will be working with the Youth Development, Inc. children this summer, and am quite excited!

My house mate has left, so I am reclaiming my house!  Living room is almost back to being a living room, dining room needs only a few more touches and it will be back to being just that, but the most important thing of all is that I am reclaiming my studio.  Seems like it has a long way to go yet and I may never be done, but are we ever really done completing our space?  I never really have been, I always think, oh, this would work better here!

It's like Christmas to say the least!  Unpacking boxes I've not seen in a while, discovering old friends and seeing that I can make "new ones"...  LOL...  it's a lot of work, but I am enjoying it!  Hoping to soon have a real space to play and make my own art....

Today I will leave you with a couple of pictures from CIFI 2010....  LOL....  did I tell you we already have "secrets" for CIFI 2011?  The grass never grows under our feet...

Peggy Wilson Class-WIP

Peggy Wilson, what a wonderful teacher and marvelous person this lady is!  Her classes are small (only 15 persons) so that she is able to give each of her students individual attention!  This was a two day class, I learned so much it was unbelieveable!!!!!!  If you get the chance to take a class with this wonderful artist, don't hesitate.  I have a very short list of teacher's that I will take a 2nd class from, and she is definitely on it!
       As usual, I ventured off on my own path...LOL...Thank Goodness, Peggy didn't mind at all!  We all started out making the Queen of Hearts, "Off with her head"....  however, once I got the mouth done, I realized she wasn't screaming, but singing...  so here is my work in progress...  She will be "Earth Mother Goddess" when she is done.

Two of my friends are tying the knot soon, not once but twice!  Once with there family and loved ones, and the 2nd time with there doll family and love ones (which I am part of) at a marvelous annual doll conference known as the "RenoIowa Doll Conference", held alternatively been Reno and Iowa, by Jean Bernard and Sherry Goshon.  They have requested that quilt squares be made by each of us, those who will be attending and those unable to attend.  Besides being known as "Bubbles" by my Vintage Trailer Friends, I am known as the Phoenix in doll making circles--hence, I chose to create this piece for their quilt.  Best of luck, love and happiness guys!

I can not believe!.......

that it is already mid March!  Where has time flown off too?  I've been busy, busy with school of course, and have been doing lots of art work!  One of my favorite classes is bookmaking.  I have made pocket books to hold all my needles, art books, art field journals, books with covers and books that close using ribbions and skewers with rubber bands!  So, school has kept me jumping for sure!  

Winter seems to be never ending here in the Rocky's.  Yesterday was a mix bag of snow, rain, sleet, sunshine, rain, more snow and more sunshine....  over night is snowed an additional 3 inches, such is life in New Mexico.  Don't like the weather?  Wait 5 minutes, it's likely to change.  

Let's see, since I last wrote, I've seen Avatar.  Amazing movie...  Loved it.  Sherlock Homes, Robert Downey Jr.  was amazing and must have trained hard as his naked upper torso was really sweet eye candy and I just saw Alice....  Woo Hoo....  another amazing film.

Thought I would share this picture of me and my girlfriends as we are out for our annual Christmas Week Luncheon.  I am the over blown blonde in the turquoise (for those of you who don't know me), standing next to me in the back is JoAnne (with the gorgeous white hair), in front of her is Diane (aka, Pixie), next to Diane is Edna (aka Sneakers) and on the end, laughing joyously is Donna (Auntie).  Diane and Edna are my co-horts in the conference "Creations In Fiber".  All five of us are Fiber Artists.

Even More Dolls!

Seems I'm on a roll here!  LOL....  Here are two more doll ornaments I created.  One is for JoAnne B, a good friend (she's the white one) and the orange one is Donna (Auntie) Cole's.  These have been such an easy way for me to transition back into doll making after too long a sabbatical.  The white one's face is totally and original sculpt!

More Dolls!!!!!

Well, sort of!  Here are two ornament dolls I've just finished.  They are both Christmas Presents and I will give them to the girls tomorrow during play day!  They were so much fun, two more to go, then I've a scarf I need to finish!

So after I finished the scarf, I created this little jewel for my Doll Club Christmas Gift Exchange.  Finally, after all this time I've finally started creating again!  I am pretty jazzed.  I hope Carlyne likes her, as I've not met her and have no idea what her taste in dolls is.  This however, is all me....  I really do love fantasy and it seems to be "my thing".  Hope you enjoy her.

Here is latest thing I've woven.  It's a scarf for my SIL for Christmas.  This week we carded wool, learned to type and made a simple piece of felt!  I'm really going to miss this class!

Children's Hospital Fund Raiser

Finally, finally, I almost feel like myself again!  Today was the first day I've actually been out of the house to do much of anything other than take my test for licensure and going to school.  KoKopelli's Enchanted Dolls and Creations in Fibers purchased a 4 1/2 foot tree, provided the ornaments...all were hand made... and decorated the tree as a fund raiser for the local Children's Hospital.  The ornaments were just amazing. Pictured here right to left is me (in the blue), Donna Cole, Edna Hager and Diane Little (she is in the vest). Here is the tree that we decorated and it contains all the handmade ornaments.

What I've been Up To....

And then here is a picture of my 1st tapestry... My circle is far from perfect, but I'm okay with it...  I missed two classes, so am doing it from a book and notes....  LOL....  Hope to catch up quickly!

Well, as most of you know, I've had the H1N1....  believe me it is no fun at all, at all.  Anyway, I am starting to feel better, so I thought I'd show you what I've been working on...  first are these ornaments for a tree that CIFI and KoKopelli's is donating to be auctioned for the local Children's Hospital...  I have a few different style bodies done, but I'm not sure I'll have time to get them stuffed and finished before Wed.  Here is what I have finished now.

So after finishing the turquoise scarf I decided to use a heavier cotton for the weft of the 2nd scarf.  Overall the hand of this is not as delicate as the turquoise one and it felt like I was winding bobbins every couple of minutes.  Again you can see the lavendar stripe in this scarf where I missed the dent, but again certainly lends interest to the scarf.  I reall am having too much fun with all of this.

First Snow Fall of the Season.....

  So this is what I awoke to this morning. Over the years many of you have either seen the view from my front dining room window (like Jacque U) or have seen the pictures that were taken from there.  So here is another one....  Bother, but it is early this year!  It's only about 1 1/2", but it's colder than a grave diggers arse!!!!!   LOL...  the last comment was made due to the proximity of Halloween!Yesterday I taught for the first time at the kindergarden level.  What fun!!!!!  Lots of people think it is stressful to teach kids this young.  Guess I'm just a big kid at heart!  Anyway, I loved it!

McCalls Pumpkins Patch...

And so off we went to the Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch!  We had a wonderful day.   Finally came home, made pumpkin soup and then went off to a bond fire here where I live.  We had a marelous time, see?!

The Girls Are Here!

Yeah!  As promised here are my first 3 weaving projects.  Angel, my oldest Granddaughter is modeling the very first thing I ever wove.  Look closely and you will see a bunch of errors, but I kinda like it.  Then we have Ali, my youngest granddaughter is here modeling two of the bags I've woven....  one is for her (the little blue one, but she thinks it's for someone else! and she doesn't read blogs!) and the purple one is for my daughter who refuses to carry a purse (not that I blame her!).  Hope you like them....  the next two should be off the loom soon and I'm gathering for the next two......
